Letter to the Editor
Dear editor,
I needed to make an addition to our list of corporate sponsors for
the 2008 Eisenhower Marathon. La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant joined
our corporate sponsor list right after the news article had been
sent in for the marathon. We’re delighted for their support
of our event!
Volunteers will soon be calling area businesses to solicit support
for prizes given at the marathon and other runner needs. We hope
most business owners were able to read Thursday’s article
in the Reflector Chronicle describing the Eisenhower Marathon and
benefits it brings to our community—the largest of which is
bringing runner dollars into Dickinson County from across the United
States.
The marathon through the years has had runners from every state
in the United States but three—Delaware, New Hampshire and
West Virginia being the only ones not represented yet. We will have
at least one participant from Canada in 2008 and several foreign-born
individuals are running again this year.
The profit from those runner dollars is then part of what is given
to many of our local nonprofit organizations to help children and
families in need countywide.
What a win-win situation! Dollars brought in from across the United
States…motels, gas stations, restaurants and other stores
increase business at a time of the year that is quite often not
a busy tourist time…profits help families and individuals
in need.
It’ a really fun event to coordinate and many, many thanks
are always due the tremendous volunteers who participate. Would
you like to join in on volunteer activities? Call me at 263-3474.
